Otter Pocket Knife 161
- Traditional pocket knife with medium pointed blade
- Sapeli wood handle scales
- Slipjoint lock
With old knives and two world wars, it’s often hard to figure out who invented what and when. On the one hand, the number of knives that were made in Solingen before World War I is incredibly high, and on the other hand, many pocket knives and their stories have simply been forgotten over the past few decades.
Even if the Otter Pocket Knife 161 had a romantic history, it has been lost over the years.
Most likely, like the Otter Mercator, it has been manufactured since 1848. The knife’s part number was 161 back then, and it still is at Otter. Probably a somewhat unromantic, perhaps boring name for a timeless classic from Solingen. Nonetheless, the 161 model is a faithful working pocket knife that is quite capable of handling rougher cutting jobs.
The sapele wood handle feels wonderfully snug in the hand, while the steel bolsters provide added stability. The Spearpoint 1.4034 steel blade is not only resistant to corrosion – it is also quite easy to resharpen.
